Kenley's First Christmas

Kenley (and Phil and me) spent Christmas in Kentucky with my side of the family. We had a great time and Kenley seemed to really enjoy her first Christmas and spending time with her Grandparents, Great Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and K9 relatives.

*SPECIAL GUEST BLOGGER*

I don't usually post here (for lots of reasons, but primarily because Amber is much better at it). Anyways...

Twenty-nine years ago, something wonderful happened to me and I hadn't even born yet. Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

And special thanks to Amber's mom and dad for making her!

Love Phil

*here is where a beautiful picture of Amber should go, but I'm not good enough at this whole blogging thing, so everyone will have to think about their favourite memory of Amber and picture her just as you remember her then*

8 Months Old!

Dear Sweet Kenley,

Today you are 8 months old! I say it every month, but time has just gone by so fast. I was just looking at pictures of the day you were born. Could that really have been 8 months ago?

You have had an exciting last month. You went to Idaho twice in the last month, which put your plane tally up to 8 planes! We went for you to meet your Great Grandmother, Cynthia, who called you her sweet Signe (who was her daughter and your grandmother who passed away April 10). It was a sweet meeting. We then, unfortunately were back 2 weeks later because your Great Grandmother passed away. Although this was a sad occasion, you were able to meet some Aunts and Uncles you had not seen yet. And, in a couple of days, we go to visit the other side of the family for Christmas in Kentucky!

You are so close to crawling. You can get wherever you want to go, but it’s through rolling and scooting and spinning. I have a feeling you’ll crawl before Christmas though. You love to “talk.” You say babababa. Sometimes you just make the motions with your mouth, but no sound comes out. It’s so cute! But other than that, you are a pretty big chatterbox. It’s so cute.

You went on your first date this week. Grandpa took you to his Holiday party for George Fox University. You got all dressed up and stayed out late! Don’t expect this to become a habit, as your Papa says you’re not dating until you’re 33! I tend to agree.

I think you are finally starting to like food. For the longest time (like since you were 5 ½ months old) you were really not interested in food at all. In the past few weeks, I am pretty sure you’ve come around. We’ve had luck with apples, pears, squash, mangoes, prunes, and sweet potatoes. You’re not sure about peas, but I think another try may convince you!

You are my favorite, kid! I can't imagine doing anything other than what I'm doing now. Momma loves you Punky!

Love you,
Momma

O Tannenbaum!

We went to Sauvie Island on Saturday to get our Christmas tree. We left as soon as Kenley got up from her nap, but she still fell asleep on the way there. When we did get there and had to wake her up, she wasn't too happy.

But Papa can always make her smile!

7 Month Post Addendum

Kenley also started snorting this month. It's so funny! She also makes a sound that sounds like a squeaky door, but I haven't gotten that on video yet!

7 Months Old!

Dear K Rae,

Today your are 7 months (and 1 day) old. I swear it w
as just like 30 seconds ago that you turned 6 months old. I feel like time keeps getting faster. You are growing up soooo fast.

Auntie Rachel says you look like Momma in this picture!

This month, you have done a lot of "grown up" things. You:
  • are cutting two teeth. I'm sure they will be adorable, but the fact hit me that you will never again have that precious little gummy grin.
  • got your H1N1 shot and didn't even cry. You didn't even flinch, and then you smiled at the nurse.
  • are sooooo close to crawling. You get onto your hands and knees and rock back and forth constantly. One day you even got up onto your toes in a downward dog yoga position!
  • are starting to sleep unswaddled. I didn't think that would ever happen, but you seem to like it, after about 5 minutes of fussing anyway. You can roll around and grab your pacifier yourself when you lose it!
  • Oh, you also sit in the front of the shopping cart now instead of the front carrier.

Hanging out on the porch swing in your fashionable fall plaid! You dress better than I do!

This month, you have fallen in love with the cats. You think they are the coolest. I have to shut the door at naptime because if you hear Lily meow, you are up and looking for her. I am surprised at how gentle you are with them. You've only taken hands full of hair a couple of times!

Getting love from Zoe

We are going to Boise on Friday for you to meet your Great Grandmother, Cynthia. This will be your second plane ride. At least we'll have some help this time and you will have someone else to play with other than me.

Playing with your favorite toy...your measuring cup!

You get more and more fun all of the time. The sound of you laughing just melts my heart, and, lucky for me, you are doing it more and more these days. I feel soooo lucky to be your Mom. You're the best kid!

Hanging out with Papa. Get your feet off the dining table!

Love,
Momma

Update and Halloween

Kenley had her 6 month check up this week. She weighs 16 pounds 14 ounces and is 27 inches long (when does it become "tall" and not "long"?) She's still somewhere in the 90th percentile for her height, but she's moved down to the 50th percentile for her weight. Tall and slim like her Papa!

Kenley had a fun first Halloween. She w
ent to two parties! I have posted some pics of my Little Yoda below!

Kenley in Atlanta

Kenley and I have been in Atlanta for the past week visiting family. Here are some pictures from our adventures so far.

Kenley's first trip to the Varsity. She not quite old enough for their famous chili cheese slaw dogs yet, but she did get a taste of Will's chocolate ice cream!

Kenley has perfected her sitting up since we've been here. She seems very pleased with herself!

Kenley's first time taking a bath in the kitchen sink.

6 Months Old!

Dear Sweet Baby Girl,

Today you are 6 months old. That's like half a year. It's gone by sooooooooo fast. I look back at pictures from April, and I can't believe you've grown so much since then. It's truly amazing.

You are being crazy active these days, and super silly. You don't like to sit. You always want to be standing. When I can get you to play on the floor, you try so hard to crawl, but you just cannot get all your body parts to work together. I think you'll figure it out pretty soon though.

We have tried the whole solid food thing again this month. You are still not sure how you feel about this real food thing. You kinda liked pears, didn't really like apples, really disliked carrots. You were good with squash. Yesterday you tried bananas. You were pretty meh about them. You do like hot chocolate and dill pickles though :)

You also took your first flight this month. Just a few days ago actually! I have to say you were a pretty good baby flying across the country. Several passengers complimented your behavior! I'm not surprised. You are a really easy going kid.
We are in Atlanta right now and you are having a blast with your grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncle, and cousins. You are getting constant love and attention and you are just eating it up. You are having so much fun!

I really can't believe I've been your Mommy for half a year now. It's been so fun and I would not have it any other way. You're the best kid!

Love,
Momma
