The Brullooly's Have Moved!

So, last night I attempted to post K's 16 month post. Blogger wouldn't let me. So, I am switching to WordPress. I started my Project Life blog there, and I really like it, so there you go.

The Great Camping Trip

We took Kenley camping for the first time to at Oxbow Regional Park. It's not far, but we wanted to stay a little close to home, just in case. There was no need to worry because she did great! She had a short nap that day, so bedtime was pretty easy.

Having a snack

Kenley made a little squirrel friend that she chased around the campsite

Did you know rocks are delicious??? Kenley thought so!

But I thought breakfast was delicious!

15 Months Old!

Dear Doodle Bug,

Today you are 15 months old! You are becoming more awesome and more challenging everyday.

This past month, you have really started to test your boundaries. You have been saying "uh oh" for a while now, but you finally learned to use it in context...except you purposefully cause the "uh oh's."  You'll push your cup off the table..uh oh! You throw your toys...uh oh!  You also started hitting. Where do babies get this??? It's not like you've ever seen people being hit. I tell you no, and you just laugh and laugh. What am I going to do with you!

Even though you are pushing boundaries, you have become so much more cuddly and loving this past month. You love to hug my neck and give me kisses. It melts my heart more than anything when you come up to me and give me a hug or kiss that I didn't prompt. You will also actually sit in our laps for more than a half a second. You really love just sitting next to us on the couch.

You are also quite the little comedian.  You do silly stuff all the time to try and make us laugh.  You love laughing at yourself as well.  You think you are soo funny, and you are.  You really just love to laugh.

You have proven several times this month that you are MORE than capable of walking. You've walked across the living room a couple of times with no problem, not even a waver.  But, you still prefer crawling. I guess you'll walk when you are good and ready! I don't know where you get that stubborn streak (Papa)!

We are going to the beach today to celebrate your Papa's 29th birthday...your first time! We are going to have a blast! I love you so much Sweet Baby!

Love,
Momma

Kenley's First Trip to the Zoo!

For some reason, Phil's company decided to give it's employees today off instead of July 5, like the rest of the business world. So, we took advantage of the odd day off and took Kenley to the zoo for the first time! It was a stifling 61º in Portland today. Yes, it's July and it's still in the 60's (I'll be wishing for this day next week, when it's supposed to be 90º).

It was a little drizzly, so some of the animals were hiding away, but we saw the polar bears, zebra, giraffe, and lots of underwater creatures. The fish and turtles seemed to be K's favorites. I think it was because she could get right up to the glass.

K's Nana comes on Monday and we are hoping she'll want to go to the zoo with us on a nicer day. Maybe more animals will be out!

Just Because...

Kenley found a box full of Phil's old stuffed animals (we've recently acquired a lot of Phil's childhood things. His Dad moved houses and we got it all!) She loves this bear and snuggles with it a lot during the day.

We have this built in bench thing in our dining room. Kenley likes to climb onto it, but she doesn't like to get down by herself! So, sometimes I like to make her sit there so I can take pictures of her!

NaBloPoMo June 21

June 21: What was the worst job you ever had?
The worst job I've ever had was a very unfortunate situation. It was a nanny job I had in Seattle the summer after my sophomore year in college. It was for 3 boys. They were 9, 7, and 5. The 9 and 5 year old were fine, but that 7 year old had it in for me....big time. But the real problem was the Mom.  She let the kids call her every time I didn't do what they wanted. I'd tell them no, and they'd call their Mom. Like 50 times a day. So, I basically had no back up or authority. I ended up quitting before the summer was over, which is VERY not like me. The straw that broke my back was when the 7 year old spit in my face and punched my in the boob!!! and the Mom basically said boys will be boys. I could have handled this if I had at least had back up from the parents, but I could not keep going on like that. I had a lot of nanny jobs, and some other unruly kids, but their parents were mortified when they acted up (as I would be) and that makes all the difference.

NaBloPoMo June 18 (Oops. I'm late!)

June 18: What's the one food you feel like you couldn't live without? What's the one food you'd rather die than put in your mouth?
I could not live without spaghetti! I could eat it everyday, for every meal. It never gets old to me.

I would never want to put cottage cheese in my mouth. It's gross. My Mom said even as a baby I wouldn't eat it. I even tried it again a couple of months ago, just to see if my tastes had changed...nope, still nasty.

14 Months Old

Dear Kenley,
Today you are 14 months old!

This month you have continued to amaze me with your ability to pick up on things. You learn so quickly. We really have to watch what we say and do around you :)

You still don't want to walk.  You can walk. You will walk between your Dad and me if you we prompt you, but you still prefer crawling. You learned to climb on to and off of the couch recently. You think this is really cool. We accidentally learned you can also go down stairs now! You are kind of a little climber. We can no longer use strategically place objects to box you into an area. You can pretty much climb your way out of anything. Luckily, you haven't figured out how to crawl over gates or out of your crib yet!

This past month, your Grandpa Dan moved out of his house in Beaverton in to a house 7 blocks away from you! While we were helping him pack, we found all kinds of cool stuff. Like the dress in the picture above. It was made by your Grandma Signe and used to be Aunt Rachel's! It's still a little big on you, but it was still really cute!

Your Nana is coming to visit you this next month, which means you will be very spoiled! We'll have a good time doing all kinds of stuff when she's here!

We're going to have so much fun this summer kid! You're the funnest and I love you to pieces!!!!!

Love,
Momma

June 16: What's your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is something bad happening to and/or losing someone I love. It used to consume me thinking of this. It took a long time for me to be able to live in the moment and enjoy the people I love. I still think about it when I hear a story about something happening to someone's spouse or child, but I try to just keep things in perspective and enjoy every day, hour, minute, second of the time I do have with the ones I love.

June 15: What's your superpower?
I have a mind like a steel trap. I remember everything. Kindergarten...I remember. Embarrassing story about a family member...I remember. It's fun to be able to recall all those fun moments!

Also, stain fighting...I can get a stain out of anything. Old stain, new stain...I can do it!

June 14: What are the five best bands you've seen play live?
1. Radiohead
2. Sigur Ros
3. Flaming Lips
4. Elliott Smith
5. Wilco

I'd love to hear what my husband's answer is to this question....

NaBloPoMo June 9

OK, so I haven't kept up with posting everyday, but some of their prompt questions are pretty dumb. But I like today's, so I'll go with it.

June 10, 2010: If you could go back in time and meet your 16-year-old self, what three things would you tell yourself?

1. Don't date that guy for 2 years!!!! Play the field a little...you are going to meet your future husband the first day of college!

2. You're going to miss your Mom, even though you don't think so now.

3. High school doesn't mean anything 2 years after you're done. You won't ever see most of those people ever again. But the ones that mattered will pop back into your life now and again.

NaBloPoMo June 7

There were no questions over the weekend.

Today's question:

June 7: Do you owe an apology to anyone? Why?
Boring, but I don't think I do. If you think I owe you an apology, let me know!

On a funny random note, when Kenley woke up this morning, she sat in her crib and meowed until I came and got her!

NaBloPoMo June 4

Friday, June 4: What's the first thing that pops into your mind when you think of your father?
The safest answer to this is "no comment."

NaBloPoMo June 3

June 3: Define "freedom."
Freedom....hmmmm. Hard to explain.  I think of freedom as doing whatever makes you happy, even if it doesn't fit what most people consider your ideals to be.  I always think of this example. Most people would consider me a feminist (as I do myself).  When I decided to be a stay at home Mom, some people just couldn't believe a "feminist" would choose to do something that is sooo not female empowering. But that's just the thing. I "choose" to stay at home with my daughter. Doesn't make me any less of a feminist because I choose to spend my time raising my child. I "choose" to do this.  The right to choose, whatever it may be, is what I think freedom is.

NaBloPoMo

I saw this on someone else's blog, and I liked it, so I am going to do it to. It stands for National Blog Posting Month. That would be the month of June. It's a question a day, so I'm a little behind, but I'll do two today!

June 1: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Oddly enough, I always wanted to be a lawyer. I think it stemmed from the fact that people were always telling me I'd make a good one. I wanted to be a lawyer all the way up until I was about 19 and worked for a lawyer. That changed my mind very quickly. She worked all the time and hardly ever got to see her family, and, to be honest, I just don't like to work that hard! I wanted kids and figured it was pointless to have kids if I never got to see them. Thus, I did not become a lawyer.

June 2: What's your favorite poem? (And if you don't have one, why?
As embarrassing as it is to say, I don't have a favorite poem. I know, I know, I was an English major in college. I just don't get poetry. So, short answer as to why....I JUST DON'T GET IT!

I'll be back tomorrow with next question!

Boots!

Just recently, Kenley has been really into her shoes. Yesterday, she found her imitation Ugg boots. She insisted on wearing them. I thought it was pretty cute!

This picture is of Kenley's "mean" face. I know it doesn't look very mean, but she thinks it's mean! She makes this face and blows air in and out of her nose. It's very entertaining!

13 Months Old!

Dear Baby K,

Holy crap! Where did the last month go????

Anyway, today you are 13 months old. In the past couple of weeks, sometimes when I look at you, you look so old! I think it’s most when I put your hair up in pigtails. It just makes you look so grown up (but a very cute grown up!).

Pure joy is balloons from the Dollar Store!

You are definitely in toddler mode these days. You are very into “testing your boundaries.” You love to throw all the food off your tray and smack the TV screen (which nearly gives your Dad an anxiety attack!). You are starting to mimic everything we do. When you dance, you have started to dance like your Dad. And anyone that has ever seen your Dad dance will understand my concern! Your mimicking has made teaching you pretty easy these days. In just a couple of days, we taught you to sign for milk, more, baby, and all done. I’ve tried my hardest to teach you water, but for some reason you refuse. You prefer the point and grunt method when it comes to asking for water!

I love Italian food...just like my Mommy

I continue to be amazed at how outgoing you are. Your Dad and I are both introverts, but not you! You love people. You like almost everyone you come in contact with. You don’t seem to be scared of anyone. Your Grandpa takes you to the coffee shop every Friday, and I think it’s the people watching that keeps you so entertained.

Mom attempting a self portrait

Although some days you barely eat anything, you still are pretty adventurous when it comes to eating. You still love Lebanese food, last night you ate BBQ Chicken pizza, and you love sour things. Pickles and lemons! You won’t eat an orange, but give you a lemon….

You are one skinny little squirt! All of your 12 month pants are just the right length, but you swim in them around the waist! I never thought my 10 pound 1 ounce newborn would end up being a string bean!

Eating a flower I picked at the park

You aren’t walking yet, but you must be the world’s fastest crawler! You speed up and down your playroom! You will cruise around furniture, but if we try to get you to walk while we’re holding your hands, you instantly drop to your knees and speed away crawling.

I can’t believe how fast you are learning things these days. I can’t wait to see what this next month holds!

Love you,

Momma
